Author:山本大貴; 泉澤誠 Abstract:The purpose of the present study is to introduce a teaching technique using language consultants in communicative language teaching. Language consultant is a role in which a student pays attention to a group member's language use during activities, and provides him/her with corrective and positive feedback after the activities, referring to dictionaries. Its effectiveness in terms of second language (L2) learning and motivation was investigated by using it with 42 English learners at a Japanese university and then administering a survey to the participants. The results indicate that the technique is effective for developing learners' L2 proficiency, because they can receive a significant amount of reliable feedback, attend to form as well as meaning while speaking, observe other learners' utterances, and use dictionaries. It was also confirmed that the learners engaged in the activity with high intrinsic motivation.
