小・中学校におけるESD実践の効果についての考察 ― ESDで育成する資質・能力に対する児童・生徒の認識の比較 ― ESD研究,5:30-40 2022(Aug. 20) Author:棚橋乾, 水谷瑞希 Abstract:In this study, we conducted a series of surveys by questionnaires of elementary and junior high school students to clarify their self-assessment of the qualities and abilities cultivated through education for sustainable development (ESD). We compared the aggregated responses to schools with and without ESD so as to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of ESD. A total of 2,293 sixth-grade students from 48 elementary schools and 2,532 third-grade students from 31 junior high schools participated in the survey; the responses from elementary schools practicing ESD indicated higher self-assessments in terms of all qualities and abilities than those of schools not practicing ESD. The
results also suggested that the elementary schools practicing ESD achieved higher educational effectiveness through inquiry-based learning in the period of integrated study and/or cross-curriculum learning in subject learning. In junior high schools, there were no significant differences
between schools with and without ESD. However, the schools with high self-assessment of the qualities and abilities cultivated through ESD were characterized by practicing ESD as part of special activities such as student councils, suggesting the necessity for a whole-school approach in junior high schools.
