Abstract:In this study, FeCo magnetic wires with different widths were fabricated by photolithography and facing targets sputtering. Specifically, the domain configurations in the magnetic wires were studied. Flux closure domains with both 90° and 180° domain walls were found in magnetic wire with uniaxial transversal magnetic anisotropy. Furthermore, when the uniaxial transversal magnetic anisotropy was increased, a dramatic increase of 180° domain walls was found in the magnetic wire. These results suggest there are potential for applications for magnetic wires in stress-induced magnetic domain wall motion devices.

Abstract:Co/Cu multilayers were electrodeposited on brass substrates in a single electrolyte, and their magnetic properties were measured using a vibrating sample magnetometer. Samples with various nanometric layer thicknesses down to 0.2 nm were prepared using a coulomb controller and the relationship between the individual layer thickness and the magnetic properties was investigated. All samples showed in-plane magnetic anisotropy. The maximum coercivity value was obtained when the layer thickness was around 0.5-4 nm, and was almost five times higher than that for thick Co single-layer films. The saturation magnetic moment was strongly related to the Co content of the samples. However, for layer thicknesses of less than 10 nm, the Co content was smaller than that predicted by Faradays law. Moreover, from a quantitative analysis of the samples, it was found that the mass magnetization of Co in the multilayers decreased as the layers became thinner. The highest squareness ratio of almost 0.9 was exhibited for a layer thickness of around 100 nm. Finally, out-of-plane hysteresis measurements revealed that the magnetic moment became more easily saturated as the layers became thinner.

Abstract:Bilayered Fe_<65>Co_<35> (=FeCo)/Co films were prepared by facing targets sputtering with 4πM_s〜24kG. Soft magnetic properties were induced in the FeCo films by the presence of a Co underlayer. Hc decreased rapidly when the Co underlayer was 2nm or more. The films showed well-defined in-plane uniaxial anisotropy, with typical values of H_=10 Oe and H_=3 Oe, respectively. The high-frequency characteristics of the films show that they can work at 0.8 GHz with real permeability as high as 250. Reduced roughness was achieved by a inserting Co layer between the glass substrate and the FeCo layer.
